Disney’s Animal Kingdom Mourns Beloved Silverback Gorilla

44-Year-Old Western Lowland Gorilla Leaves an Enduring Legacy at Animal Kingdom

We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Gino, a cherished western lowland gorilla who was a resident of Disney’s Animal Kingdom since nearly the beginning. Gino’s nearly three decades on display brought joy, laughter, and compassion to cast members, guests, and wildlife experts alike.

Gino, the Western Lowland Gorilla

Gino was much more than an attraction! He was a nurturing troop leader and father to 14 offspring, helping raise awareness of gorilla conservation while also contributing directly to scientific and veterinary care around the globe. His gentle humor, playful antics, and steadfast presence made him one of the park’s most memorable ambassadors.

Gino’s impact will endure in the lives he touched, the species he helped protect, and the legacy he leaves behind.

If you ever saw Gino at Animal Kingdom, what’s one memory that always brings a smile?
