New Flamingo Chicks Hatch At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Fluffy gray chicks join the Greater Flamingo Flamboyance near Jambo House Pool

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge has recently welcomed several adorable new residents: greater flamingo chicks! Dr. Mark Penning, Vice President of Animals, Science, and Environment at Walt Disney World, shared the exciting news on Instagram, noting that guests can now spot the fluffy gray chicks along with their beautiful parents in their habitat near the Jambo House pool.

Welcome to Disney's Animal Kingdom, Flamingo Chicks!

These newborns, currently covered in soft gray down, will gradually develop the iconic pink hue and grand plumage characteristic of their species as they mature over the next 2-4 years. Greater flamingos can grow up to 4.7 feet tall and weigh around 9 pounds. This is much larger than the Lesser Flamingos that can be found at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park, who stand up to 2.9' tall and weigh in at only 4.4 pounds.

This delightful addition offers guests a unique opportunity to observe the early stages of flamingo development during their stay at the lodge. Clearly the Greater Flamingos are happy with their own stay at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge!
