Sebastian's Bistro is unique, scrumptious, satisfying and comes at an unbelievable price!
Sebastian's Bistro is a little off grid, somewhat lesser known, but undeniably the hidden gem of Walt Disney World. For those who may not know, Sebastian's is a table service restaurant, that only opens for dinner!
You can find Sebastian's Bistro, situated at Disney's Caribbean Beach resort. And in my opinion, it is totally worth the effort to dine here. Actually - it is not too much of an effort at all. Sebastian's is conveniently located on the water front, close to the Old Port Royale lobby at Caribbean Beach.
You can get to Caribbean Beach Resort taking a Disney bus from any theme park or from Disney Springs, by taking a SkyLiner from Epcot, Hollywood Studios or from Art of Animation / Pop Century. You can also walk from Disney's Riviera Resort.
Reservations are recommended for this table service dining gem, however you will likely be able to get reservations on the day too. They do accept walk ups! But honestly, get that reservation. You do not want to risk missing out here!
Sebastian's boasts delightful family style dining, inspired by Latin and Caribbean flavours. Of course there is rum too - and we will be coming to that later!
Sebastian's offers an alternative plant based menu for those interested, but I cannot tell you much about that. I went full on carnivore menu and left fully satisfied and with no regrets.
The price at the time of writing is $39 per person, plus tax, plus gratuity. But for this, you get so much deliciousness. I paid slightly less when I dined, as the price has recently increased, plus we got a 10% DVC (Disney Vacation Club) Member discount too.
So let me tell you about my experience. We were staying at Disney's Riviera Resort and took a nice ten minute walk around the lake to Disney's Caribbean Beach resort. We arrived and were greeted by a lovely, smiley, happy Cast Member. There were a few people waiting to be seated, but within a few minutes we were taken to our table.
Our server, Joe, was super friendly and came to see us very shortly after being seated. He explained how the family style worked and told us to ensure that we saved room for the dessert. Oh my - he wasn't wrong telling us that we NEEDED to save room!
We started with some delicious pull apart bread rolls, served with guava butter and caramelised onion jam. The bread was fresh and warm, not too heavy and complimented the butter and jam. I would happily pay just for the rolls, butter and jam.
Then the salad arrived. It was way too big for the two of us. Especially as I'm typically a little salad shy. It was mixed greens, with candied pumpkin seeds, tropical fruits, radish and a key lime dressing. It was crisp, citrusy, with a little crunch. A very good salad indeed!
The main course arrived and there was a lot of food. I mean it was a lot. Way too much in fact. But we didn't leave hardly a scrap of it!
There was tamarind barbecue chicken, slow cooked pork with mango sambal, chilli rubbed beef with chimichurri and baked fish with a citrus butter. Wow! The flavours, the spices, the tenderness of the meats was absolutely stunning. My mouth was tingling and I can only describe it as a festival of flavours. Everything was so tasty and delicious.
The meats came with some cilantro rice and beans, a vegetable curry and some vegetables. I remember the broccolini was a bit over cooked and a little limp, but those meats more than made up for it. I don't remember the rice, beans and vegetables so much . . . they were not the star of this show!
Our server kept offering us more of everything that we had. Even with our healthy appetites, we just couldn't contemplate more food than we already had. As you can see below, we didn't leave very much!
Sadly, we didn't take the advice from the server and didn't save too much room for dessert. This was a mistake in hindsight. I wish I had saved more room.
The coconut-pineapple bread pudding was served with a warm pourable caramel and vanilla ice cream. I have to tell you that this is now my favourite dessert in the whole of Walt Disney World. It was just incredible. I am very sad to report that I couldn't finish it . . . I gave it my very best shot, but was defeated! Man down!!!
All this was included in the set price, which is now $39 per person. Yes - all this for $39!!! At Walt Disney World, that is a great price!
I will just mention that if this isn't enough food - as if - they also have add on enhancements too for an up charge! They have peel and eat shrimp, fried coconut shrimp and crab cakes. I would have loved the coconut shrimp, but there is no way I could have added more food!
Now the drinks menu here is impressive. If you partake in alcohol, as so many of us do, you will not be disappointed here. They have beers, wines, sangria, cider, cocktails as you might expect, but they also have a selection of speciality Caribbean rums. You can try rum flights or what I had, the create your own rum old fashioned. Just incredible. You choose your rum, the bitters and syrup, from a vast menu, enabling you to make your own unique concoction.
I chose the Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 yr Jamaica rum, grapefruit bitters and honey mango syrup. $17.50 it was not a cheap drink, but the experience of having something unique was awesome. It was super strong and made me a little tipsy.
Not satisfied with being a little tipsy, I also tried one of the cocktails offered; Goombay Smash. Honestly, it finished me off. I almost skipped back to the Riviera. The Goombay Smash had three different rums, with sweet and sour and pineapple juice. It was strong, but wonderful. It did the job for sure!
This is in my opinion the best value table service dinner at Walt Disney World. What are you waiting for? Get that reservation right now!!!
